It’s been a busy month here at LUK and we’ve loved every minute of it. Not only have we broken our own record for the highest number of bookings in any week, ever… but we’ve done it twice!
Operations aside, our month started with an all-new Halloween edition of our Lipspeaking challenge and so many people guessed correctly – we’ll be making it harder next time! We also proudly announced Matt Evans as our Communication Professional of The Month. Absolutely well deserved so thank you to our client for their nomination.
Outside of the office it was just as busy. We were delighted to deliver an engaging session in the midwifery department at Oxford Brookes University. When we meet the future generation of midwives, it’s heartening to know that maternity services are on the right path to ensuring that deaf parents have an accessible and respectful experience – just as it should be.
Amongst our Access to Work bookings, it was a pleasure to support a client at the Institute of Bookkeepers ‘Bookkeeping Summit’ where we ended up beaming with pride when they received an award for their very own client’s experience
Some of our team members were particularly excited to see the news of the British Deaf Association partnering with Paramount Pictures in a new initiative that sees deaf people accessing a captioned VIP premiere of films before the general public. We won’t name names but there was definitely some skiving to get to Gladiator II.
Deaf research also had a boost as Dr Christopher Stone at Wolverhampton University received funding to research the roles of deaf interpreters and ways we can learn from other countries and grow opportunities in the UK.
Advocacy has been busy with Captioning Awareness Week, Disability History Month and Sign Health’s much needed work around domestic abuse. Don’t forget there is also a casting call out for a deaf girl (7-11 years) in an upcoming BBC feature film.
Special mention has to made for our team who were finalists at the Hampshire Business Awards. They really do deserve the recognition for their hard work and passion for making sure our clients get what they need, when they need it.
If you missed it, we announced that we are holding information sessions for our Signature Level 3 Certificate in Lipspeaking. They will be running on the 5th and 12th of December. If you’re not on our interest list, you can register here. If you have any questions or want to book a space on the information session, you can email our course administrator.
Lastly, we want to say a huge thank you to our clients and colleagues for such a fantastic month. Let’s have the same for December… except with Christmas hats!
