At Lipspeaker UK, we believe that communication is more than just words—it’s about connection, understanding, and belonging. For those who rely on lipreading, being part of the conversation can sometimes feel like an uphill battle. That’s why we do what we do: to make sure deaf people have a wider choice of communication support. .
We’re not just about providing a service; we’re about empowering people and making sure deaf people can thrive in their work without the barriers created by inaccessibility. We’re proud to be a client-first organisation, which means that everything we do is driven by the needs and experiences of the people we work with. We listen, we adapt, and we ensure that our services meet the unique communication needs of every individual.
How It All Began
Lipspeaker UK was founded because we saw a gap in support for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, particularly for those who use lipreading as a primary or supplementary form of communication. While British Sign Language (BSL) is widely recognised and valuable, we recognised that not all deaf individuals use BSL, and even for those who do, communication preferences can vary depending on the situation.
Sometimes, a deaf person may prefer a combination of methods—using Lipspeaking, BSL, Notetakers, and Speech-to-Text services interchangeably—to best suit the environment they’re in, whether it’s a healthcare setting, workplace meeting, classroom, or social event. We believe in a full-service approach that adapts to these needs seamlessly, ensuring communication is accessible and inclusive in every context.
What We Do
At Lipspeaker UK, we focus on creating connections in the following ways:
- Providing Professional Lipspeakers: Whether in healthcare, business, education, or public services, our Lipspeakers ensure that communication is clear, accurate, and accessible for everyone.
- Training New Lipspeakers: We’re committed to growing the profession by training people to become skilled Lipspeakers, helping us meet the increasing demand.
- Supporting with Full-Service Communication: We offer services that bring together Lipspeaking, Notetaking, BSL interpretation, and Speech-to-Text solutions, tailored to each individual’s specific needs and preferences.
- Educating Organisations: We work closely with companies and institutions to build awareness around accessibility and to implement inclusive communication practices.
Why It Matters
Communication is the foundation of inclusion, respect, and opportunity. When communication barriers exist, it limits participation. We’ve seen time and time again how having the right support in place makes a real difference. It means the confidence to speak up in meetings, the relief of understanding vital healthcare information, and the ability to fully engage in educational or social interactions.
At Lipspeaker UK, we’re committed to making sure that every interaction is accessible, empowering, and meaningful. We want everyone to have the support they need, in whatever form that support takes.
Our Commitment to Our Clients
Being a client-first organisation means we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. We tailor our services to your experience and your context, ensuring you get the support you truly need.
We’ll work together to create solutions that combine our services in the way that best fits your situation.
