Lesley Weatherson won the The Signature Communication Professional of the Year Award, held at the Bloomsbury Ballroom, London, November 15th 2013.

Signature writes:

Lesley has worked as a lipspeaker for more than 15 years. Having been a dedicated nurse and midwife, she wanted to be able to communicate more effectively with the deaf women in her care. She found that she was able to speak very clearly and was inspired to do a lipspeaking course. It was then that lipspeaking became her full time occupation.

Described as an absolute blessing to the communication support profession, Lesley is a tireless advocate for improvements in access to communication for deaf people. She has been of great support to the Association of Lipspeakers in numerous capacities, as vice chair, treasurer and website developer to name but a few. She is said to be changing the face of lipspeaking one step at a time.

Lesley is founder of Lipspeaker UK, a specialist agency where deaf professionals and organisations can access a reliable, quality lipspeaking service.

She consistently works to a high standard and is dedicated to her own professional development. As an NRCPD Registered Lipspeaker, she is an amazing role model and is ready to share her experience and ideas and support those who are new to the profession.

She continues to develop her own skills and seeks feedback from her clients and peers. Colleagues say that her openness, flexibility and warmth make her a joy to work with.

Lesley is also an NRCPD Registered Notetaker and has achieved the Signature Level 3 NVQ Diploma in British Sign Language. She has inspired her daughter Linzi to join the lipspeaking profession.
